Luka Modrić   (born September 9, 1985 in Zadar, Croatia) is a Croatian football midfielder who plays for Dinamo Zagreb and the Croatia national team. Modrić agreed terms on 26 April 2008 to join Tottenham Hotspur for the start of the 2008–09 season. He was named the Prva HNL "Player of the Year" in 2007.[1]

Club career
Modrić signed for Dinamo Zagreb as a 16 year old in 2002, but after a season with the youth side was loaned out in 2003 to Zrinjski Mostar in the Premier League of Bosnia and Herzegovina where he quickly showed his potential, becoming Bosnian League Player of the Year while still just 18 years old.[2][3] He later claimed that "someone who can play in the Bosnian league can play anywhere"[citation needed], referring to the physical nature of the Premier League. The following year he was loaned to Inter Zaprešić and played one season for them, helping them to second place in the league and gaining the Croatian Football Hope of the Year award in 2004, before being recalled Dinamo Zagreb in 2005.[3] Such was the regard for his abilities, Modric was rewarded with a 10 year contract through to 2015.[2]

At his team Dinamo Zagreb he usually plays as playmaker, on the left side of the field. His natural position is that of central midfielder and he plays as playmaker solely due to his capabilities to cover that role as well and to leave room for designated defensive midfielders in Dinamo's 4-2-3-1 formation. He uses both feet to play, and his biggest strength is his swift offensive positioning without the ball, as well as his great ability to read and react to the game well in many situations.[2]

Modrić agreed terms with Tottenham on April 26, 2008 subject to a medical and receiving a work permit, "for a total consideration of Euro21 million payable in instalments over the next four years. The player's contract is for a period of up to six years" [4] beginning in the summer of 2008. However, Tottenham have confirmed on their official website that the total fee is ?6.6million, surpassing the club's record fee set by Darren Bent's ?6.5million move in 2007. [5][6]


International career
Modric' performances earned him a call up for international duty, playing for the Croatian U-17, U-19 and under-21 teams, and soon progressed to his country's senior national team[7]. He made his senior international debut in a friendly match against Argentina on March 1, 2006 in Basel, Switzerland.[3] At the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany he made two substitute appearances in the group matches against Japan and Australia. He scored his first international goal in Croatia's 2-0 victory over Italy in a friendly match played on August 16, 2006 in Livorno.

Niko Kranjčar （克拉尼察发音还算标准 恩...）(born 13 August 1984 in Zagreb) is a Croatian football midfielder. He currently plays for English club Portsmouth, and is also a part of the Croatia national team. He is the son of Zlatko "Cico" Kranjčar. Playing as a striker, or more frequently as an advanced midfielder behind two forwards, he showed maturity (and stature, at 185 cm) that belied his age. His physique, vision of the game, passing and close control led many to prophesy his quick full international debut and stardom beyond the Croatian borders.

Club career
Kranjčar spent most of his youth playing for Dinamo Zagreb, and later became captain. However, in early 2005, after a disagreement with the management, he made a surprise transfer to Dinamo's biggest rival, Hajduk. His transfer was probably the biggest sport news of the year in Croatia. Later that year his agent was shot dead in his home, in a suspected Mafia hit. It was also the most expensive transfer in Croatian football at the time, until Eduardo da Silva's move to Arsenal in 2007. Niko was chosen for "Young guns firing for World Cup glory" on eurosport.com with some of the greatest talents in the world, such as Leo Messi, Lukas Podolski and Sulley Muntari.[1]

After the 2006 World Cup, the world press hailed him for his talents, and several clubs wanted to buy him. Among those clubs were the French club Stade Rennes and the Spanish Club Celta de Vigo. But in the end, Pompey came with the best offer for him. In August 2006, Rennes bid ?.5 million for Kranjčar, Hajduk rejected that offer and stated they felt they should get more for the player. Later on the same day, Kranjčar then moved for a reported ?.5million (?.2 million) to Portsmouth on August 31, 2006.[2][3]

Kranjčar made his Premier League debut for Portsmouth on 1 October 2006, playing all 90 minutes in their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham Hotspur at White Hart Lane. He scored his first Premier League goal on 31 March 2007 against Fulham at Craven Cottage, giving Portsmouth an early 1-0 lead in a match that eventually ended in a 1-1 draw. [4] He made a total of 24 appearances and scored two goals in his first Premier League season. His disallowed 'goal' on the final day of the season would, if given, have resulted in Portsmouth qualifying for the UEFA Cup. In 2007/08, his second season in England, Kranjčar has established himself as a regular in the Portsmouth side, putting in a string of impressive performances on the left of a three man attack, including a stunning 35 yard free-kick in a 2-0 victory against Birmingham City, and a 30 yard free-kick in the 4-1 victory over Newcastle United.

Kranjčar has been part of the Croatian national Under-16, -17, -19 and -21 teams before advancing to the senior national team.

His senior debut for Croatia came on 18 August 2004 in a friendly match against Israel. He was a regular for Croatia during their qualifying campaign for the 2006 FIFA World Cup, making nine appearances and scoring two goals. He also played in all of Croatia's three group matches at the 2006 FIFA World Cup finals in Germany.

Kranjčar was also a regular for Croatia in their ongoing qualifying campaign for the UEFA Euro 2008, having appeared in all twelve matches, scoring 2 goals.

He also scored against England from about 40 yards on November 21st, firing a speculative shot that went through Scott Carson's arms and into the net to open the scoring in Croatia's 3-2 win over England that knocked the English out of Euro 2008 qualifying.[2] He scored in a friendly against Scotland with a spectacular effort just from inside the penalty area in a match played that ended 1-1, the other goal coming from Kenny Miller.

Josip “Joe” Šimunić 西穆尼奇也是没错滴... (born February 18, 1978) is a Croatian central defender, a member of the Croatia national team.

Club career
Šimunić, born in Canberra, Australia, is of Bosnian Croat heritage. He received early football training at the Australian Institute of Sport. The defender broke into the Melbourne Knights first team as a teenager in the 1995–96 season and ended it with a championship medal. Šimunić scored his first goals the following term, three in 14 outings, before moving to Europe to join Hamburger SV in 1998.

Šimunić moved to Hertha BSC Berlin in 2000 after falling out with Hamburg coach Frank Pagelsdorf and has since become an integral member of a team which has enjoyed occasional forays in the UEFA Cup.

Despite his Australian-taxpayer-funded education at the AIS, he decided not to play for his country of birth and play his international football for Croatia (the country of his parent's birth) in October 2001, making his international debut in Croatia's friendly match against Korea Republic on 10 November 2001. Šimunić did not play in any of Croatia's qualifiers for the 2002 World Cup but was given a place in the squad for the finals after injury forced Igor Tudor out. He played all three of Croatia's matches in Korea and Japan. He also played in the Euro 2004 and the 2006 World Cup.

In a well-publicised incident, Šimunić was sent off in Croatia's final 2006 FIFA World Cup match against Australia. Having picked up a booking in the 61st minute, the referee Graham Poll took out a yellow card for Šimunić's tackle in the 90th minute, but did not actually send him off. However, at the conclusion of the game three minutes later, Šimunić remonstrated with Poll and received a third yellow card, this time followed by a red card. FIFA initially noted all three bookings in its match report, before later removing the 90th minute (second) booking. This prompted the removal of Poll from the knockout stages referee pool. Shortly after the World Cup, Poll retired from refereeing international games, citing this game as a direct cause. It should also be noted that Šimunić himself has faced some criticism for failing to remove himself from the pitch of play after the second card.

Upon the release of his autobiography in 2007, Poll revealed that, upon booking Simunic for the second time, he had erroneously recorded him as “Australia #3”(who was defender Craig Moore); Simunic, a Canberra-born Australian of Bosnian Croat parentage, speaks English with an Australian accent.

He is known for having great football technique, despite being centre-back. His national teammate Kranjcar says that “on a training he does feints like Ronaldinho”.[1]

Chelsea FC reportedly were interested in buying Šimunić in January 2007, but no move materialized.[2][3][4]

Dario Šimić 达里奥.西米奇 (born November 12, 1975 in Zagreb, Croatia) is a Croatian football player who currently plays for A.C. Milan of the Italian Serie A. Nicknamed 'The Pitbull' for his fearsome competitiveness, Šimić is a versatile defender who can play at full-back, sweeper or central defender. He is the only player who featured in all of Croatia's major tournaments since the country's independence and is also the Croatian national team's all-time cap leader with a total of 97 international caps.

Šimić made his name with Dinamo Zagreb where he started his professional football career in 1992. He played for Dinamo for seven seasons, during which the club won five Croatian First League titles and also became a member of the Croatian national football team.

Šimić appeared in only one out of four matches played by Croatia at the Euro 1996, but was then a regular member of the starting line-up at the 1998 FIFA World Cup, where Croatia finished third, and appeared in six out of seven matches at the tournament, only missing the third-place match as he was not eligible to play after being given two yellow cards in the previous two matches. His performances in France earned the attentions of Europe's biggest clubs and he went on to join Inter Milan in January 1999 after also playing with Dinamo Zagreb in the UEFA Champions League in the autumn of 1998. However, he never established himself as a first-team regular during four years in Inter, and the cross-city rivals agreed a player swap with 躮it Davala going in the opposite direction in 2002.

He played for Croatia in two out of three group matches at the 2002 FIFA World Cup as well as in all three group matches at the Euro 2004. The Croatian team was eliminated in the first round on both of these two tournaments. On the club level, he made a more significant contribution with AC Milan including 13 appearances on the road to victory in the 2003 UEFA Champions League, though he was omitted from the Old Trafford final.

In May 2006, he signed a contract extension with Milan that will keep him at the club until 2009, just weeks after openly criticizing coach Carlo Ancelotti over lack of playing time.

At the 2006 FIFA World Cup, he appeared in all of the Croatian team's three group matches before they were eliminated from the tournament with two draws and one defeat. The second group match against Japan on June 18, 2006 in Nuremberg was also notable for being his 82nd for Croatia, which enabled him to surpass Robert Jarni's record-holding 81 caps and became the Croatian team's all-time cap leader. In the final group match, a 2-2 draw against Australia, he was sent off five minutes from time after receiving his second yellow card.

Alongside experienced Robert Kovač and Igor Tudor he is considered one of the best Croatian defenders in recent history. Šimić also scored three goals for Croatia and last time he was on target with a last-minute goal for their 3-2 victory in a friendly match against Argentina on March 1, 2006 in Basel.

Darijo Srna 达里奥.SRNA 囧 这么怎么拼啊 色狼？ (born on May 1, 1982 in Metković[1]) is a Croatian footballer who plays for Shakhtar Donetsk. He plays in the right midfield wing position for Croatia, but he plays in the right-back position for Shakhtar Donetsk. He has scored many goals from free kicks and penalty kicks, and often makes precise crosses.

Career
Srna started his career in Hajduk Split, where he was considered one of their best players. In 2003 he was sold, along with Stipe Pletikosa, to Shakhtar Donetsk.[2] Srna was part of the Croatian national team in Euro 2004, where he played in two games.[3]

In September 2006 he was temporarily dropped from the Croatian squad for a Euro 2008 qualifying match with Russia because of a late night partying in a local disco along with teammates Boško Balaban and Ivica Olić.[4]

Srna also starred in all 3 games of Croatia's 2006 World Cup campaign where he was strictly criticized for his penalty miss against Japan, although highly praised and remembered for his spectacular 30 yard free kick which put Croatia ahead against Australia in the match that ended 2-2 and saw Croatia therefore exit from the group stage.

After the World Cup, two-time European Cup winners SL Benfica were after the player's signature but nothing materialized, with what many consider Benfica bidding again in the Winter Market.

Srna was considered the hero of the match when he came on as a substitute against Macedonia in a Euro 2008 qualifying match and scored shortly after from a free kick which was shot into the right corner of the goal.[5] In the 88th minute he provided a cross which found fellow teammate Eduardo da Silva, and allowed him to score and *** a win for Croatia.
