The downloadable prologue to Sony's "Online Car Life Simulation" will arrive in autumn, according to French gaming site Jeux-France. Meaning, we'll see a playable Gran Turismo 5 demo (what some will tease, "Gran Turismo HD 2") hit PS3's PlayStation Store later this year.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, as Sony insists, will be followed by the actual game in the spring of 2008 (in Europe). The demo will feature several cars and circuits, and will support online play via the Gran Turismo Network. Although unspecified, given that GTHD is free, we assume that the GT5 demo will likewise be a complimentary promotion.

Sony Computer Entertainment will bring a playable demo of the fifth Gran Turismo instalment to the PS3's online store this autumn, ahead of its release in Europe next year.

This is all according to French website Jeux-France, who report that Gran Turismo 5 Prologue will be on Japanese shelves before the end of this year.

Gran Turismo 5 Prologue, as the download version is called, will be apparently offer several cars and circuits as well as online play via the Gran Turismo network. It's not specified at this point whether it will be free or paid-for content.

Polyphony previously pointed at a 2008 date for the fifth racing instalment, after cancelling Gran Turismo HD as a full disc-game.

Further more, Jeux-France also reports that Gran Turismo HD will be available for download from the PS3's online store at European launch on March 23.

When we picked up the phone to ask Sony about the GT5 report it was unfortunately unavailable for comment, but we'll let you know as soon as it gets back to us.

Gran Turismo 5 annoncé sur PS3

Sony Computer Entertainment nous donne aujourd'hui des nouvelles concernant le prochain Gran Turismo à venir sur PlayStation 3. L'éditeur nous confirme ainsi la sortie de Gran Turismo 5 pour le printemps 2008 en Europe et pour la fin de l'année au Japon. L'éditeur précise également que sa sortie sera précédée par Gran Turismo 5 Prologue qui sera téléchargeable sur le Playstation Store dès l'automne 2007. Même si l'on ne sait pas, pour l'heure, si cette version sera payante ou non, elle devrait proposer plusieurs voitures et circuits et sera jouable en ligne via le Gran Turismo Network. Enfin, l'éditeur profite de l'occasion pour rappeler que Gran Turismo HD sera disponible en téléchargement dès le jour de lancement de la PlayStation 3 le 23 mars prochain en Europe.
