MILAN
Abbiati: 6 – Made a cracking early save from Pellissier – little knowing the offside flag had gone up anyway. Steady enough afterwards, but uncertain in the air and very nearly beaten by Mantovani header.
Abate: 5.5 – Got lucky when his air shot clearance could easily have put Pellissier through. Worked well with Beckham down the right before picking up an injury and leaving the fray before half-time.
Thiago Silva: 6 – Still looked fairly solid, but misses Nesta whenever he’s out.
Favalli: 5.5 – Chievo had plenty of success down his and Zambrotta’s flank, with Pinzi and De Paula making good yards down the right, and he was often left in the wake of younger, fitter opponents.
Zambrotta: 5.5 – Struggled with the pace after his recent troubles.
Gattuso: 5 – The standard Gattuso performance of graft over craft, but his legs couldn’t see him through the first hour and he was replaced by Inzaghi in Milan’s quest for goals.
Pirlo: 5.5 – Found it hard to get his quality across in the game, often being too deep to be of any real effect. Replaced by Seedorf.
Ambrosini: 5.5 – Almost put Milan ahead with a trademark late arrival in the box, but was a passenger for the most part.
Beckham: 6.5 – Had his superstar looks tainted by Pinzi’s boot, but provided a number of crosses Milan’s attack should have done more to convert. Could have scored himself a couple of times, but his main concern right now will be his race to be fit for the World Cup.
Borriello: 5 – Didn’t really get into the game in the first half, although he did force Sorrentino into making a low save. After the break, it didn’t get much better as he paid for his lack of real movement.
Ronaldinho: 6.5 – Had some success running at Sardo and Luciano, but had little quality in the way of delivery. Dragged a couple of shots he may have done better with, but was ultimately Milan’s main create output once more.
Subs:
Oddo: 6 – Called into action earlier than anticipated due to Abate’s injury and put in a couple of decent crosses.
Inzaghi: 6 – Looked as likely as anyone to score before Seedorf’s winner. Adds extra dimension when on the field.
Seedorf: 7 – His late wonder goal gives the title race a whole new complexion. Earning a shout for super sub of the season recently. |
