New details on Dante, the 360 version of the game and why we'll actually be able to tell its heroes apart

You'll play as Nero for about 60 percent of the game, and he still handles more or less like a younger, hipper version of Dante; with one gun and a sword that - using a system called Exceed - he can throttle up like a motorcycle to unleash more powerful attacks. The biggest difference between the two is still Nero's Devil Bringer, a huge, spectral arm that can lash out at foes and slam them around.

What happens when you grab an enemy apparently differs depending on what kind of monster it is; when we watched Nero tussle with giant ice demons, for example, he was able to keep one hovering in front of him as a "human" shield, or whip it around like a horrifying pair of nunchaku, smashing it into any other demons dumb enough to glide close. What's especially cool about it, however, is that Nero can use it, Bionic Commando-style, to latch on to certain objects and yank himself around.

We also got a look at Nero's demon form for the first time; while Dante's transformation has always turned him into a winged horror, Nero's appearance doesn't change in the slightest. Instead, activating his demon power overlays a huge, ghostly blue demon ont his body - apparently a projection of the Devil Bringer - which can then hurl blades or slash at baddies with enormous spectral swords. As cool as all this stuff is, though, Nero's abilities - or at least the ones we've seen so far - are pretty underwhelming compared to what Dante's packing this time around.

You'll play as the red-coated demon hunter for the last 40 percent of the game, and he comes correct with four different fighting styles, which can now be switched between on the fly (unlike in DMC3, where you had to select them before each level or at a power-up statue). With one button tap, Dante can flip between Trickster, Gunslinger, Sword Master and Royal Guard styles, each of which dramatically changes the way he plays. And while that versatility is cool, it's Dante's new weapons that really make us look forward to playing through his segments.

As Dante finds them, each weapon is introduced with a ridiculously overwrought cutscene of him using it, exhibiting all his usual ***iness and humor - which was good to see, after his seeming coldness during the fight with Nero. The Lucifer introduction was especially memorable - after beating down the huge, flaming demon Berial, Dante leaps around, dramatically hurling glowing swords into a huge slab of rock while spouting off some melodramatic nonsense about his technique. And then, with a rose clenched between his teeth, he claps like a Flamenco dancer and the swords explode, carving the slab into a gigantic heart shape.

Finally, we also got a look at a new level, running on the Xbox 360 version of the game, which had Nero picking his way through a jungle. The level culminated with the appearance of Echidna, an astoundingly weird boss that looks like what you'd get if you crossed an orchid and a gigantic flying s*** that keeps a cackling woman's torso in its petaled mouth. You'll fight her both as Nero and as Dante; as Nero, much of the fight centered around grabbing her stunted, bat-looking "children" with the Devil Bringer as she spat them out, throwing them into her conspicuously glowing weak spot and then staying the hell out of the way when she closed her s***-mouth and started undulating through the air.

Fighting Echidna was also the extent of our brief hands-on with the 360 version, which looked and played identically to the PS3 edition. Playing as Dante, the fight was almost disappointingly straightforward, relying on old-fashioned gunplay and leaping sword combos instead of newfangled bat-hurling. It was still a lot of fun, though, at least up until the point where we were told our masterful victory was only possible because the game's diffi***y had been set to Easy. Feh.
我们能够操作360版的对Echidna的战斗,感觉跟PS3版没什么区别。用但丁的时候让人很郁闷,总是重复的跳起来开火和空中剑舞,而不是用新武器。当然仍然很好玩,不过游戏难度毕竟是锁定在E的,还是少抱怨点吧。
