Component shortages cut into the number of consoles Sony's homeland will receive.

Our comrades at IGN have discovered, through a look at the Nikkei Keizai Simbun morning edition, that the number of PlayStation 3 consoles which will be available at launch in Japan will be lower than expected. Originally, the launch target for Japan was 100,000, but now it looks like only 80,000 units will be available come November 11. The Japanese newspaper cites component shortages as the reason for the lower numbers. So far there is no word on whether or not US shipments will be affected by the same component shortage, but it'd be understandable if this news makes prospective PS3 buyers a little bit nervous, especially if they haven't secured a pre-order.
