Flying Omelette's Top 50 Favorite Game Ending Songs
Extravaganza Part 1
Here's a little something I threw together just for fun. I had once thought about doing a Top 100 Favorite Game Songs feature, but I realized there are just simply too many songs that I like to narrow it down. But if keeping to a specific type, in this case the ending themes which I thought would dominate a Top 100 anyway, it was much easier to handle.
As with my Top 100, I'm not necessarily claiming these are the 50 greatest game ending songs of all time, just my personal favorites of those I've heard.



#50: THE GUARDIAN LEGEND
Composer: Miyamo Shant

The ending music for The Guardian Legend is a rather simple melody that I like for inexplicable reasons. It's the kind of piece that says, "You got the job done. Rest awhile, and then head off for your next adventure." The midi is a really lovely saxophone and piano rendition.


#49: DRAKKHEN

You'll need Winamp and the proper plug-ins to play the spc files. This is another song that I can't quite explain why I like it as much as I do. It's a calm melody, and I just like Drakkhen's weird instrumentation.


#48: ZANAC

Yet another simple, but memorable and effective tune by Miyamo Shant. A note on midis I've converted with nsf2midi: For some reason, whenever one of these midis stops playing in Media Player, it gives an error message. This doesn't seem to affect anything, it's just annoying. It doesn't happen in Winamp.


#47: THE LEGEND OF ZELDA: LINK'S AWAKENING
Composer: Koji Kondo, Kazumi Totaka, Minako Hamano, Kozue Ishikawa

This game has a lot of people credited for composing its music, so I'm not sure which one is responsible for this number, although it's a variation on Koji Kondo's original Legend of Zelda theme. I just love how happy and uplifting this piece is.


#46: METROID 2: RETURN OF SAMUS
Composer: Ryohji Yoshitomi

While not quite as emotionally-charged as the original Metroid's ending theme, this is still a great little number, especially for a Game Boy game. Even though I love the game, I didn't care for Super Metroid's ending song as much as I did for the first two in the series.


#45: BLASTER MASTER
Composer: Naoki Kodaka & Marumo

Blaster Master's entire soundtrack is excellent, having that unique hard-driving sound that Sunsoft made popular in their NES games. The ending theme sounds really happy and lighthearted. I love that the midi even includes the "Game Over" tune at the end of it. Kudos!
