Back from Gamescom: My impressions

Hey lads,

I finally got to play Fifa 10 today. I'm gonna go straight to business here.

Alright first off the version that I played was the demo so it had only a few teams so I couldn't answer most of your questions regarding madrid, manutd,...... I am going to write my honest impression of the game and I'm going to be a bit picky.

Gameplay

As soon as I got my hands on the ps3 controller, I was high on excitement. I couldn't wait for kick-off. I was playing this German guy so he picked Bayern and I went with Barca.

At first(first 3 min), I was a bit frustrated because it seemed a bit like 09 but then I started to actually feel the difference. I was truly amazed. 360 dribbling is top notch!!!! Its hard to tell but once you pay close attention, you really see the difference. The game is much much more fluid and players move around freely. The game-speed however still seems a bit fast to me but I guess you can change that in the settings(didn't try it). As result of this mid-field play is a bit clumsy and there is little space for maneuver(still better than 09). However this could be due to me playing against another player rather than AI. Therefore this might not occur in a match against CPU. It must be mentioned that mid-field play is more crucial in 10 than it was in 09. In my opinion they could still work on this aspect for FIFA 11. Switching plays has been improved: much more effective and useful.

Skilled dribbling is my favorite feature, combining this with 360 dribbling and you have a masterpiece. It feels amazing to dribble past player. In my opinion, Messi is a beast in this game as result of 360 and skilled dribbling. Once you master skilled dribbling and use messi, you can truly do some amazing stuff. Shooting seems different and better but could still be improved. Physical play is another massive feature. It becomes clear once you play a skilled mid-field against a strength midfield(like chelsea vs barca). Its very diffi*** to run past Essien with xavi while holding down sprint, Xavi will be easily shoved off the ball.

Overall, you can play some fantastic football in FIFA 10. I'll give you an example. In my first match, I played as Barcelona. Iniesta made a long pass to messi who was near the 18 yard box. Then I chested the ball with messi. I took on A.Cole, dribbled past him(it was unbelievable), cut in and passed the ball to Ibra who back heeled it . Xavi came running and blasted the ball only for it to hit the post. This was the best experience I had while playing Fifa 10 today.

Graphics & Animations

Graphics are much better than 09. They do resemble the screens that we've seen so far. Animations are quality; bunch of new ones. However crowd and stadium need some work. I didn't listen to the commentary properly but my guess is that its more or less the same.

Final Verdict:

Is FIFA 10 the best football game created till now?

I can easily answer YES. The gameplay is truly amazing even though it has a few minor flaws. 360 dribbling is a revolution in football gaming. Skilled-dribbling is the most exciting feature. Overall, we're looking at the most complete and realistic football game up to date.


P.S: I must mention that I played PES as well. And lets just say that Konami needs to change the whole PES team in order to catch up with FIFA. It was shockingly horrible after all this hype.
