Yesterday Microsoft held its Financial Analyst Meeting 2004 event at its Redmond, Washington, headquarters and this morning, with that all past, it seems there are more than a few semi-huge to huge bits of information. While most of the meeting didn’t focus on the Xbox or gaming, it was revealed yesterday that Microsoft’s Media Center Extender, which hasn’t been in the news for more than a little while, will be launched later this year. Revealed by Microsoft’s Joe Belifiore, who works on its Media Center and related products, the following was said on the matter.
“Yeah, other than that. So Media Center Extender will be available this year. And there's also a flavor of that that we're doing for Xbox so that you can buy basically an Xbox title and turn your Xbox into an extender.”
Xbox Media Center Extender aside though, perhaps the most important bits from the event concerned the Xbox 2. Specifically, Microsoft’s Chief Executive Officer, Steve Ballmer, stated that the Xbox 2 (Xbox360, Xbox Next, Xenon, etc, etc), will not be released next year. To be exact, the following was said.
“There's no new Xbox in the next year, but, man, are we hard at work on that next Xbox; that's all we'll say. New Xbox Live creativity, "Halo 2," and again innovation fuels growth, innovation fuels growth. It's about as simple as that. People fuel innovation, innovation fuels growth and customer satisfaction, driving that hard, make sure that the wheel can come around and around and around and around and around.”
Of course, whether this means the system won't come out in 2005 ... or if it means it won't come out until after the start of the next fiscal year is open to interpretation. At any rate, stay with us, and our Xbox 2 section, for more news.. |
