PANUCCI’S DAYS IN RED AND BLACK
He was an important part of AC Milan for the three-and-a-half years that he played here and, although his jersey has often changed colour, the defender has never been seen as an outsider. He achieved a lot with Milan: two league titles, the Cup of Champions, the European Super Cup and the League Super Cup. Today Christian Panucci is an important part of the Roma backline, Milan's next opponents as the first half of the season comes to a close. Panucci's former team-mates Costacurta and Maldini will face familiar faces: an in the shape of Bova, Chivu (who has past experience against the Rossoneri with Ajax) and Cufrè (whose tackle last May which injured Marek Jankulovski isn’t easy to forget). Kuffour will be missing as he is in Ghana for the African Cup. Dacourt is suspended while midfielder Kharja (who is in Morocco for the African Cup). Striker Nonda is out for two months following a knee operation. Roman striker Vincenzo Montella, who has scored four goals against Milan (one with Sampdoria in April ’99 and three with Roma) has been out since November 20 with back problems and is not expected to return before February. Even without a full team, Roma remain strong as they walk away from a fresh 2-1 victory over Napoli (goals by Aquilani and Mancini), in addition to a qualification for the Italian Cup quarter finals where they will face Juventus.
