The business analysts at 24/7 Wall St. have compiled a list of companies in turmoil, and Nintendo made the cut. According to the site, the rise of smartphones is to blame for Nintendo's troubles, and it claims that employees are "losing hope" as problems continue to mount.
Nintendo has publicly refuted the idea that smartphones are a threat, but I find it hard to believe that even Iwata's cabal of gibbering executives are too stupid to take mobile gaming serious behind closed doors.
Whether or not Nintendo's employees are actually suffering morale loss isn't something that can be easily proven, but the company's pants fell down quite hard this year and the company's yet to pull them all the way up.
That said, with the holiday season coming up, Nintendo has a chance to get back on top -- we'll have to wait and see if the 3DS' Winter lineup will get Nintendo back in good graces with the shareholders and press.
